Two Prayers

Linn Possell, linn the wonderful consultant on Aging and Spirituality, who has been working with St. Andrew UCC this year suggested that people of the church and Patricia and I would strengthen our connection with each other by sharing in a common, daily, spiritual practice.

We agree.

So we offer you these two prayers, should you be so inclined, for each morning and evening from August 1, 2012 through October 31, 2012.  Wherever we are, we will pray these prayers.  Who can say what vibrancy, beauty, grace might come from this shared practice!

Morning Prayer

May our eyes

see God’s beauty

dancing

within this day.

 lilac

May our ears

hear God’s grace

whispered

within this day.

May our hands

do God’s love

tenderly

within this day.

May we know

we are

a dwelling place

for God who is

beneath,

within,

above,

behind,

beside,

before.

Oh yes.

Amen

Evening Prayer

Now

at the close of this day we pause

to say thank you

for opening our eyes, ears, hands, and minds

to the ways

you are in the world.

Image

Through this night

may your rest

be with the weary,

may your solace

be with the brokenhearted,

may your healing

be with the ill,

may your peace

be with the troubled,

may your justice,

be with the oppressed.

May your comfort and delight

be with

family and friends

everywhere.

Oh yes.

Amen

May those of you reading this post be met by God in precisely the place you most need to be met.

Let us know about your experience with your practice of praying these two prayers.

Thank you Jan L. Richardson for your prayer inspiration:  In the Sanctuary of Women.

  1. These two prayers are amazing and wonderful. I would love to receive the prayeers as a printed bookmark. Blessings, Susan Cheney, 26233 Seminole Lakes Blvd, Punta Gorda, FL 33955.

  2. Your two prayers…I want them to become the start and end of my day. I’ll let you know what happens in between.

  3. I would love to receive a bookmark copy of the Two Prayers! I am a former student of both Bernie and Marlyn Hupperts (and Arlene Trettin’s daughter). I am currently serving as the youth Pastor at Cong. UCC in Neenah and would love to roll out this program with my youth in a few weeks when we are at Moon Beach (your old stomping grounds). Thanks so much for sharing!
Please send it to me at 1511 Nicolet Blvd., Neenah, WI 54956
    Blessings on your journey!
